~ {Hart of Dixie} style ~

From city chic to southern belle!

When it comes to celebrity style, Rachel Bilson (aside from being interminably cute) is one of my favorites. She has a knack for putting together pieces in a fresh way and is savvy with proportions; and she can pull off a maxi dress plus blazer without overwhelming her petite frame. Now after a few stints on the silver screen, the former “The O.C.” star is back this fall on a TV series. More after the jump!

Great fitted blazers, pencil skirts and silk blouses from fashion houses like Alexander Wang, Helmut Lang, Chloe, L’Agence, Timo Weiland and Reformation. And also the classic ones, Chanel and Missoni.

P.S. What about a little bit more of Rachel Bilson?

Her new album, due out next year, features Johnny Depp, of all people, on guitar. “Johnny’s a great musician,” says Smith, who in person is precise and watchful. “Patti Smith: Camera Solo” opens at the Wadsworth Atheneum in Hartford, CT, and is on view through February 19, 2012; thewadsworth.org

~ the magic of Mary Blair ~

21 Oct

Mary Blair (October 21, 1911 – July 26, 1978), born Mary Robinson, was an American artist who was prominent in producing art and animation for The Walt Disney Company, drawing concept art for such films as Alice in WonderlandPeter PanSong of the South and Cinderella. Blair also created character designs for enduring attractions such as Disneyland‘s It’s a Small World, the fiesta scene in El Rio del Tiempo in the Mexico pavilion in Epcot‘s World Showcase, and an enormous mosaic inside Disney’s Contemporary Resort. Several of her illustrated children’s books from the 1950s remain in print, such asI Can Fly by Ruth Krauss. Blair was honored as a Disney Legend in 1991.

Mary Blair died of a cerebral hemorrhage on July 26, 1978. A doodle was created by Google on Friday, 21 October 2011, to commemorate her centennial anniversary. The Doodle featured an image of an illustrator as Mary would have drawn herself, surrounded by the simplistic patterns and shapes that made up her familiar cartoon world.

While the fine art she created outside of her association with Disney and her work as an illustrator is not widely known to the public, Blair’s bold and ground-breaking color design still serves as an inspiration to many of today’s contemporary designers and animators.

“Fashion and art don’t always converge, but when they do, it’s fantastic,” says China Chow, the host and judge of Bravo’s series Work of Art (think Project Runway for visual artists). As an avid fashion enthusiast, Chow is very particular when it comes to what she wears on the show and styles herself throughout the series. She chose 18 of the 22 looks filmed this season and her own closet (she brought in a vintage Alaïa skirt and Comme des Garçons trousers, among other pieces). Here’s an exclusive sneak peak of a few of her season two outfits, including the one she will wear tonight: a hand-dyed and ruched minidress from Juan Carlos Obando’s Spring 2010 collection (above).

~ Gucci Museum ~

28 Sep

The official opening of the Gucci Museo was held in the historic Palazzo della Mercanzia in Piazza Signoria in Florence, during the celebration of the 90 years of Gucci house. Frida Giannini is the person who envisioned and completed the project. A permanent exhibition with samples from Gucci creations does a throwback to the values of the house. Lots of people from the fashion industry attended the glamorous event, which coincided with the closure of the city’s Fashion Week.
